Small Talk Six - Worst Movies

This weeks MomDot question is: 6 of the worst films you’ve ever watched

Can I list 6?

Jennifer's Body - Really sucked! The folks behind this movie were just trying to capitalize on a pretty girl but the movie had no thought behind it and Megan Fox is pretty dull.

Observe and Report - As a fan of Seth Rogan I was hopeful that this would be good. I couldn't make it past 40 minutes. I really tried.

The Fountain - I got it because Hugh Jackman was in it but I have no idea what the hell this movie was about.

The House Bunny - Oh my God! Really???

I cannot come up with another movie that made me say that was aweful.

Sunday Stealing: The Pretentious Blogging Meme

1. How long have you been blogging? Since June 2005

2. What made you start? I wanted to leave a comment for a friend who has started a blog. Assuming I needed to register to do so, I started one. It was pretty pathetic. Here is my very first post.

3. Who inspired you? My kids, I was inspired to document their every moment.

4. About how many hours a week would you estimate you spend on your blog? About 20 hours on my blog, linking, researching, reviewing, posting, photos, memes, commenting.

5. What kind of experience or background do you have with writing? I have always written. Poems, stories, journals. I got my very first journal (a Holly Hobbie one) for my 7th birthday. When I look at it now, I really wish I wrote more. There are so many empty pages and the ones that weren't empty, I was busy apologizing for not writing. This is my only experience!

6. Talk about how you come up with blog topics. Where do you get your ideas? Whatever is going on at the moment. I wish there was more time to actually just talk about random topics that sit in my head but that is not possible.

7. What or who inspires you and your blog? Me, me and me...I just want to write about my life, and talk about my kids. Everything else is just fillers.

8. Where and/or how do your brainstorming for your blog? Oh, you know...I sit at the table and look at my list of things to review or commitments I have for PR folks and put real life experiences on the backburner. A story about Goddess' first Valentines Day card from a boy story has been sitting with me for over 2 weeks.

9. Do you have any blogging rules or guidelines you follow? Nope

10. Is there anything you will not blog about? Nope

11. Do you have any sort of a publishing schedule in terms of day of week or topic? Nope, although someone tried earlier this week to get me on one and I declined.

If you are new to the meme, welcome. To find out why I began Self Portrait Sunday, see my first post here.

The rules are simple. Just post a picture of yourself linking back here. Hope to see your beautiful faces.
IMG00842
I took this picture tonight at Chili's. The baby girl is sick and had just woken up. Can you tell? About 3:30 today my husband asked if I wanted to go out to eat. Hello, are you kidding, you don't have to ask me twice. I love going out to eat, especially with my family. It is a wonderful experience to be out without the comforts of home and depend on each other. We are a family and it shows most when we are in the elements and function as one unit. It is also great to see how well behaved my kids are. It probably has something to do with the fact that we interact with them. My parents didn't take us out to eat often so when they did, they would pretty much ignore us as they talked, laughed and interacted with each other. We were pretty much on our own for entertainment which means we pretty much got yelled at most of the time. Hello parents, if you take your children out to eat, then you must go as a family! If you want an intimate, adult conversation, leave the kids at home.

Celebrate The Big Game With An Old El Paso

Can you believe how fast this year is already going? The Superbowl is scheduled for February 7th and football fans are already planning for the party.

Every year my husband makes his famous multi-layer nacho with all the works, Black Olives, Refried Beans, Jalapenos, Green Chilies, Meat, Shredded Cheese, Salsa and a big helping of Sour Cream. We never finish them but we make some nice dents. For me, it is the only thing to look forward to on SuperBowl Sunday until this year.

Thanks to My Sparks and Old El Paso I received this really awesome "Tackle the Taste" gift pack; two free cans of Green Chiles, as well as a football-shaped ceramic serving platter, two sets of football-themed plates and cocktail napkins, and a themed table runner.
Picture 811

Obviously, as you can see, the table runner won't be used as one in my house. My son confiscated it for his football play. Here is a picture as he is running after a ball he threw up in the air, now he is heading down field to catch said ball.

Saturday 9 - Everybody Is A Star!

1. Did you ever think that you'd be a star? If yes, doing what? I already am a star baby! In my own eyes anyway and isn't that really all that matters?

2. Tell us about the last time you had a romantic dinner. Hahaha...let's see that was sometime in the fall I think, my niece watched the kids and my husband and I went out for an amazing dinner at this place not to far away.

3. Tell us about your worst job interview. It was one were I failed a drug test. I have never taken a drug in my life, I know it and the Lord knows it. I called up my contact and told them (imagine those kind of guts at 22?) that I had never done a drug in my life and how wrong the test was. Fortunately they believed me and I worked there for a year.

4. Tell us about your stupidest date. Umm...I don't think I dated enough to have something called "the stupidest date." Oh wait, there was one where I drove down to South Jersey to met someone who thought he was God's gift to women. When I got out of the car, he asked me to do a little turn in the drive way so he could, what, I don't know, check out the goods I guess. We then got in our appropriate vehicles to head to a club. He gave me directions and said, follow me and you won't get lost. I followed, until I saw Turnpike signs and got the hell off. I had no idea how to get home but knew if I could get on the Turnpike then I would eventually get home. He was such a tool, I just couldn't spend one more moment there.

5. How much in common do you think you should have with a romantic partner?  I don't think you have to have a lot in common, you just need to accept each others differences and sometimes step outside your own comfort zone. Although it is nice to have some things in common. Like I know friends who go camping, hiking, and rock climbing, all things I always wanted to do but never said so.

6. Tell us about a favorite meme that you loved but no longer posts. Meme's come and go...one of my favorites was one of my own...(if I am going to pick one, why not my own. Shoot me). It was called  Week in Pictures or WIP, only thing was no one ever took as many as I did so no one ever played. It was simple, just post a picture and quick journaling of the photo for each day of the week.

7. How did you get into blogging? I should just cut and paste from a prior meme. A friend had a blog, I tried to leave a comment. Thinking I had to be a member to do so, I started a profile which lead to the beginning of my blog.

8. Do you share all your fantasies with a significant other? Fantasies like fantasy lovers come and go so they change all the time.

9. What change in your life would you like to happen this year? There are so many, but they are all for me personally. I want to grow as a person, take more chances, push the envelope and stop hearing past words in my head about how weak, pathetic, small, immature, greedy, and more that I am. I already know they are all bullshit but sometimes it is hard to turn off the negative noise that your mind replays at any time of the day.

Caress Your Skin with A Caress

Thanks to a Family Review Network campaign, I was able to try out Caress' new body soap and body wash. Caress Evenly Gorgeous!

One Word! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Body wash has an exfoliant in it, which is especially necessary in the cold, dry, winter months.

The scent is burnt brown sugar and karite butter. The soap and body wash are excellent and beside the great smell they do a great job of moisturizing. Just take a whiff and relax in the tub. Your body wants you to.

Vampire Diaries - A Book Review

Over the summer I purchased Vampires Diaries. Being a book reviewer there was never time to get to it. This weekend I picked it up and finished The Awakening and The Struggle.

This is the first time I have read a book after seeing the movie (or in this case TV show on CW). The book of course is better but I like the show too.

There are many differences between the book and the show.

In the Awakening, the first volumn of the series we meet Elena Gilbert (in the book she is blonde). Elena is the popular girl at school. We meet Matt, Bonnie and Caroline who is someone we wouldn't be friends with now but we know her since we were children.

When new student Stefan comes to school, Elena is very interested. He is attractive and doesn't react to her looks the way the rest of the boys in school always have.

She soon discovers that he is tortured vampire with a historic past. He and his brother Damon both loved the same women "Katherine" and when asked to choose between the two of them she turned them both into vampires so that they could all be together forever. The brothers fought over her which promoted her to kill herself by exposing herself to the sun. Stefan and his brother kill each other in a sword fight. Because of Katherine's blood they wake in the family crypt and spend the rest of their lives hating and avoiding each other.

Stefan is a self hating vampire who tries to fight his urge to feed on humans and feeds on animals instead while Damon loves his new self and relishes in the kill, his strength and skills.

Elena and Stefan are in love but when the town accuses him of murder he leaves.

Elena heads out in search of Damon who she feels is behind the murder.

In The Struggle, Damon wants Elena for himself and will stop at nothing to have including murdering his brother. AGAIN!

Damon tells Elena that he killed Stefan. Bonnie, who has psychic abilities has a vision and says she sees Stefan in water. They believe he must be under the bridge but upon checking he is not there. Matt tells them it sounds like he is in a well. When they find Stefan is is dying. Elena forces him to feed from her for strength.

Damon enters Elenas house and though protected by Bovein she lets him feed from her to protect her sister Margaret (yes in the book she has a sister not a brother named Jeremy). They exchange blood!

Like Katherine so many years ago, Elena is now tied to the Salvatore brothers by blood.

One night during a storm Elena feels something evil is coming for her. She gets into her car and tries to outrun it. As she is crossing the bridge her car goes off into the river and she drowns.

With Salvatore blood running through her veins she too become a vampire.

The books are funny and I can hear the characters from the show talking. They have picked the perfect cast to play the characters in the book. I can totally see the Damon character from the book and the one on TV as the same.

I can't wait to get the other books to see how it ends.

Anyone who loves Twilight will appreciate Vampire Diaries. BTW...I wish the show talked more about the Diaries, sometimes I forget the reason for the name.

OxiClean Has Two New Products Worth A Try!!

Last week I received two products as part of a OxiClean blog tour through Mom Central.
Picture 806

The packs look like the kind you would place in your dishwasher. They are compact and easy to just toss in the wash.

The stick is a roll to pre-treat stains.
Picture 808

I had a chance to really test them out on my daughters beautiful, pink winter jacket. Her teacher took her class out for recess the other day. When I pulled up the teacher apologize for the mud. I thought, perfect, I get to try out the OxiClean!

I pre-treated four bigger stains with the OxiClean Max Force Gel Stick Pre-Treater, then tossed the jacket in with our normal detergent and an OxiClean Max Force Power Pak. The coat looked just as good as it did before recess. I am so happy with it.

ABC Wednesday - Round 6 - "B"

B = Bee - Isn't he the cutest. I love this honey pot.

B = Birthday - Well it was a half birthday party. He turned 6.5 years old but for the purpose of this meme, we will consider it a birthday.
Picture 078

B = Big Brother - I love this picture. It isn't the best picture but I love how he is teaching her the alphabet.

The Simple Women's Daybook - January 25. 2010

Outside my window...rain, rain and more rain
I am thinking...of too many things to even go there right now. My well-being is a priority right about now.
I am thankful for... my time on this earth.
I am wearing...jeans and a two piece black and gray shirt
I am remembering...how terrible I was feeling this weekend
I am going... to take a nice, long bath in a little while
I am currently reading...The Vampire Diaries
I am hoping... that everything I heard this weekend doesn't ring in my head for the rest of my life.
On my mind... my son and whether I should pick him up from school instead of having him take the bus in this rain.
Noticing that...Things are never what they seem
Pondering these words... "I gave up my life.."
From the kitchen... not much going on there these days. Other than it is clean.
Around the house... piles of books I need to find a home for.
One of my favorite things~ spending time with friends
From my picture journal...Picture 744

Neosporin Lip Health 3-Day Challenge

My daughter who has extremely dry lips and I both used the products. Goddess' lips get so dry that they are usually bleeding. This happens because she ends up picking them, pulling the skin off and then looks like she has a bloody lip.

We saw a drastic difference on her lips by day 2. Now by day 5 her lips have no dry pieces to pick at.
I think I have become addicted to both items. I love the change of

The Dating Profile Meme

This is my first time playing this meme.

The Dating Profiles Meme: It Ain't Easy

1. It is never easy to talk about yourself. Well don't start now!

2. I am not a mind reader, so say what you mean and mean what you say. So when you smell like ass, you want me to tell you!?

3. You can't Acquire what you Require if you don't Enquire. What??? Did someone learn some new words today?

4. I have a creative streak and it know how to use it! Wow, well Mr Creative, stop calling yourself "it".

5. Someone who might teach me how to kayak, or take me for a long walk through the woods showing me the beauty of the outdoors. Did you know you could hire someone for this? You don't need to take out an ad for this. BTW, I am so sorry to hear about your accident. Obviously you must have lost your legs and eyes if you need someone to take you on a walk and show you the beauty.

6. I enjoy walking, reading, going different places, taking long rides and seeing where we end up. You should never read and walk at the same time, you could hurt yourself.

7. I don't say alot at times but at other times very talkative. We can hang as long as I am in charge of when you are quiet and when you are talkative.

8. If I meet your expectations please contact me --- If not I totally respect your honesty. You won't be hearing much honesty unless I call right? Duh!

9. I love my blackberry and my WII. Sounds like your nights are full, I hope the three of you will be very happy together.

10. I am a hard worker, owning my own house which I take great pride in the impovements I have done to make it a home. Are you employed or is your job making your house a home? Just asking!

Saturday 9: I Think We're Alone Now

Saturday 9: I Think We're Alone Now

1. What celebrity in a fantasy would you like to be alone with? Oh do I have to pick just one???? If it is my fantasy there would be two and it would be Rob Pattinson and Gerard Butler. This is so easy since I've had both of them many, many times...First, we would all......damn if I go there I will never get done with this post...

2. Have ever dated a good friend? Yes...I actually married him. We were really good friends!!

3. What is the most embarrassing song that you like? No Nothing

4. What is your favorite tear jerker movie? The Notebook, Sophie's Choice, Steel Magnolia's, Not Without My Daughter, Sybil, (I'm a big Sally Field fan, that chick can break my heart. I love her), 7 Pounds...this is really hard. I love a good cry.

5. What about yourself makes you least secure? Feeling inadequate

6. Do you believe in destiny? Yes, I believe everything happens because it is supposed to.

7. What 'issue' do you think your opinion is so right about that you end up trying to sway others to your point of view? I have never been so self important to think that everyone should have my opinion. We are all stars of our own reality which means we are all entitled to our own beliefs. However, the only time this philosophy falls by the way side is when it has something to do with my kids. There is nothing someone can tell me about my kids that I either don't already know or think they don't know what the hell they are talking about.

8. What are 5 things you don't care about? Gossip, trying to get someone to come over to my side of the issue, football, basketball, and soccer.

9. Have you ever been in a situation where you weren't sure if you were seducing or being seduced? I was always the seductress. When I was younger I was much more confident in my feminine ways. Now, I wouldn't know someone was seducing me, I wouldn't think they were interested in me that way. You would have to smack my in the face with a 2X4 for me to believe you were even trying. In my marriage, there is no seducing, I basically just ask, "You want to have sex?"

Treat Precious Skin With Exederm - Product Review & Giveaway.

Thanks to a campaign through Family Review Network I was able to review a product by a company called Exederm.

Over the past 6.5 years we have learned a lot about Eczema in my house. My son suffers from it and at times I don't know how he functions. Seeing him scratch is a normal occurrence, Benedryl and Hydrocortison is something we ALWAYS have to have in stock.

Eczema is a dry, irritated skin that can be triggered by irritants, allergens, stress, heat or sweating. My son has had it since he was 2 months old. It started on his eyebrows, moved to his scalp and now he has it everywhere. He has many irritants and we take great care in making sure his skin stays hydrated. In the winter we use loads of moisturizer and a humidifier in the house due to the dryness of the wood stove, heat and fireplace. Dressing him in winter clothes and then sending him to a too hot classroom is also a problem. Let's put it this way, he suffers all the time! The vicious cycle of eczema is Itch-Scratch-Inflammation. No very fair is it?

As soon as my son saw them he said, "those are for me!"

My Opinion In A Nutshell: We have tried each and every one and in my opinion, there is really no need to try another. Because my son scratches his skin so hard, he breaks the skin and sometimes putting the necessary cream on him is a problem. It stings and makes him more itchy on top of the complaining about it hurting. There hasn't been a single one of these products that have hurt him. In fact, this is the first product that he has ever brought over to me and asked me to put on him.

La Choy Makes Dinner Time Easier

Thanks to Mom Central I received a box of La Choy's newest product. I can NEVER see the word's La Choy without singing the jingle in my head. East meets West, La Choy makes Chinese food, swing American. Back in the day, it was the closest I got to Chinese food. It was before I knew any better. In the 70's living in Millbrook NY there was nothing even close to a Chinese restaurant.

With picky kids and a husband always dieting, I usually just make something easy for myself, cereal, soup, salad, a sandwich but sometimes you need something good, warm and filing. You can open my pantry at any time and find at least one box containing the phrase, Just Add Chicken! So I was thrilled to be selected as one of the reviewers on La Choy Creations.

I opened the box and removed the 2 items. 1 can of specially blended teriyaki sauce with sesame seeds and 1 packet of pre-measured long grain rice.
Picture 682
Listen to how easy this dish was.

Cut up 1 lb of thawed, boneless chicken.
Heat a skillet and add 2 tablespoons of oil. I used Olive Oil because there is no other way to fly in my book. Throw the chicken in until cooked 5-6 minutes.

Picture 681

Add sauce, rice packet and 1 1/2 cups of water.
Picture 683
Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer for 12-14 minutes until rice is tender

Plate and serve
Picture 693
Easy peasy...you can even add carrots, peas, water chestnuts, or whatever else you like to make this a complete meal. Substitute shrimp, beef or whatever else you have on hand. I am trying pork next time.

It was tasty and filling and even taste better on day two when I wrapped it in lettuce leaves for a yummy lunch.

Super Why On PBS

My daughter has always loved variety when it comes to programs and movies. My son is the opposite, he has favorites that he goes to all the time.

Goddess has a lot of shows she loves to watch. One of them is Super Why on PBS. I am a big PBS supporter and have been since I was in my early 20s.

If you have not seen Super Why and you have a child between the ages of 3 and 6, you are really missing out.

It is a really great show made up of 3D colorful CGI. I love the high tech cartoon out there today.

Saturday 9: When We Was Fab

1. Is there a blog as far as its appearance goes that you think is the most fabulous? Well, I think they are all pretty fabulous but no at the moment, none are coming to mind as the MOST fab.

2. Do you like the look and the contents of your blogs? To say no to this question, wouldn't say much about me would it?

3. Have you ever thought what would happen to your blog in case you died? Well, I would hope that someone would take what I have saved and eventually do what I have intended and make books for my kids. Otherwise, No..I don't put much thought into it. Staying away from thoughts of dying is really important to my health.

4. Has any particular blogger had a great impact on how you set up and write your blog? Not really, I think we are all individuals and don't really look at others thinking, "I want to be like them." There is room for all of us to be ourselves.

5. Would you want a fellow blogger to give you suggestions or criticism of what you write? I would love it! As a writer you want to elicit a reaction good or bad. I love when people feel they can do their thing. Feel free, I want people to comment! Doesn't mean I will change anything, but I am open to suggestions and criticism.

6. Is the number of visitors each day to your blog important to you? Not as much as it used to be. When I first started reviewing I felt it was important. Looking at my numbers was something I need the end of every day. I haven't check the numbers in 3 months. The last time I checked was for a potential sponsor.

7. What percentage of your readers do you think actual comment? 5 or less.

8. Do you have a favorite blogger who does the memes that you participate in? Yes, I have two...Lorie and Freda...Lorie does a lot of these type of memes where Freda does a lot of photo memes.

9. How often do you update your blog/site and why?  I try to do it at least once a day. Why? Well because it is the only thing I do for ME for the past 5 years.

Kid Friendly, Kid Safe, Zoodles Website For Goddess

Computer and TV time for kids has a bad reputation and sometimes for good reason.

I have never felt that too much TV is bad, I feel it is WHAT they are watching on TV that can be bad. As long as the programing is monitored, educational and age appropriate, children can learn a lot. My son was spelling words like House and Blue at the age of 23 months thanks to Blue's Clues.

Computer time should be strictly monitored, but with the appropriate websites, your kids can get a fun, interactive, and amazing education.

This is how I feel, shoot me. I truly believe that TV and computers are not bad! How they are used is the problem.

That is why when the opportunity to review a website called Zoodles came up, I was excited to participate.

The kids are allowed on the computer a few times a week under strict supervision, the biggest reason is that they are using, my little old laptop that has it's own issues and I need to make sure they don't rush it. We go to Starfall, Noggin and Webkinz but I am always on the look out for a great site and never have the time to really search them out.

I sat with 4.5 year old Goddess who was so excited to get started. First she was given a dog and asked to name it. Then we started playing games.

Depending on your child, there is even a Parent Play-Along Mode so you can explain and assist if necessary. Great for younger kids. (You can check out and see a video of all Zoodles features here.)

She loved it! We played a Kai-lan game, we did some phonics, Wordworld, Starfall, and more. Every once in a while the computer tells her that she played a lot of games and gives her a chance to feed her dog. Very cute!

At the end (I was done and wanted to start writing up my thoughts, she wasn't), I am brought back to the parental dashboard where I see a listing like this of everywhere she was and a pie chart that tells me how long she spent on each subject.
  1. Kai-lan's Great Trip to China (8 minutes)
  2. Let's Talk with Puppy Dog: ABCs and Phonics (5 minutes)
  3. The Letter L (3 minutes)
  4. Frog's Rhyming Machine (3 minutes)
  5. Where do Slippers Sleep? (3 minutes)
  6. The Letter R (2 minutes)
  7. Alphabet Song (1 minute)

Sites

  1. Nick Jr. (11 minutes)
  2. Starfall (6 minutes)
  3. Zoodles YouTube Videos (6 minutes)
  4. PBS Kids (4 minutes)
  5. Other (less than a minute)

Shows

  1. nihao, kai-lan (8 minutes)
  2. WordWorld (3 minutes)
  3. Blues Clues (3 minutes)
  4. Between the Lions (less than a minute)

In A Nutshell: What is not to love!???  You control everything! You see exactly where your kids go. What they learn. What they like and enjoy. How they are doing. In the progress report tab, you get a bar graph telling you how long they worked on each subject. It is like school at my dining room table. It is everything we look for when we sit our babies in front of the computer screen.

That's right you read #5 correctly, Zoodles is free. Zoodles believes that every child is entitled to a safe, educational, online experience.

I Am Tired of Falling On My Ass!!!

Does anyone else have this problem?

I have a linoleum floor in my kitchen. Over the last 5 months simply walking into the kitchen has become a hazard.
It is old! Notice the tiny black holes where the nails are starting to come up!

Maybe it is the cleaner floor?
Maybe it is the cleaner I use?

Honestly, I have no idea what it is but I feel like dumping a gallon of milk on it just to make it sticky.

Today I researched slippery linoleum and found out that this is normal for linoleum floors. We had no idea.

The solution that I am going to try is:
  • Give the floor a good sweep
  • Give the floor a good wash
  • Give the floor a good rinse (this is the only thing I don't currently do). Maybe it needs an additional rinse.
After this, my next investment will be in a non-slip treatment.

My butt is killing me!!!!

Note:  By the way, this is by all means an invitation, for a flooring companies to contact me about redoing my kitchen floor.

Giveaway for Me and A Giveaway for You??? Could Be!

Dear Readers,

I have been a Member of Mom Bloggers Club for a year and when I stopped by today to see what everyone is up to, I noticed this sweet little giveaway! Isn't she sweet???
Dec 2, 2009 (3)

Opps wrong photo.....
I'm talking about this little beauty.

The contest ends on January 20th and goes something like this...

I am to write a post stating why winning the HP Mini 110 with Windows 7 would simplify my life. You guys should then comment on my post because get this.... Mom Bloggers Club is randomly giving away, a new car.....

No...sorry, I was watching an old Oprah episode.

Mom Bloggers Club is randomly giving away (3) HP Mini 110-1100 by Studio Tord Boontje PCs.

Sweet Deal Right???!!!

So let's start shall we,

The computer is only 3.22 lb HP Mini 311 which means that I can carry it easily on my shoulder and still hold my kids hands as we head out the house. It is so small that my daughter could have brought it to me while I was lying in bed last month with pneumonia. Woot!

I could bring it everywhere and I do mean everywhere. My life is broken up into little windows of time.

My morning goes something like this:
Drop Handsome off
Drop Goddess off
Go home or grocery shopping, do laundry, have coffee with a friend or run a couple of errands in my 3 hour window before Goddess gets out of school.
Bring Goddess to the Library to grabs books and a movie
Take Goddess home to eat lunch, do errands, do laundry, dust, vaccuum
Play games or do workbooks with Goddess until it is time to pick up Handsome
Pick up Handsome
Give snacks
Do Homework
Set Handsome up with Wii
Set Goddess up with a movie
Blog/Email
Cook dinner
Give baths
Bed Time
Exhaustion has set in.

My windows of time don't really give room for a lot of "ME" time.

With the beautiful, stunning, sweet, little HP Mini 110, I could stay organized, sort my photos, work on those scrapbook pages I have been meaning to get to the last 6 years, email my family and friends, keep in touch with all my blogging family, visit Facebook, Twitter, The 8 Mommy Groups I signed up for but never get to spend time on, research, and keep both my blogs up to date.

In this summer, it could come with me to the beach, the park, my kids swim class, etc.

The HP Mini could sit on the counter while I cook dinner, take Goddess to the library, wait for Handsome at the bus stop, I would be as they say connected!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus, with a NEW laptop, my dinosaur who is struggling and trying so hard to keep up with the technology of today could finally be put out to pasteur. It takes her 15 minutes to boot up and all her connectors are getting loose. She has done a good job but she is tired and waiting for her in my windows of time to boot, really stresses me out. If my computer time window is only 30 minutes and it takes her 15 minutes to warm up, I now have 15 minutes to answer email, do a book review, write a post, visit a blogs, read a news flash, post a photo, get the picture? Need I go on? Probably not!

Oh, and since you know how much I love being in front of the camera, I could finally get back to some video product reviews because the HP Mini 110 is equipped with a built in mini webcam. My kids can finally see their their Grandparents in Spain for a face to face chat.

Anywhooooo you guys should comment, even if I don't win, I hope one of you do and then give it to me...kidding...kidding...I'm a kidder!!!!

Good luck to you, good luck to me and have a pleasant day!

Self Portrait Sunday - January 9, 2009

Well, I am back with some quick photos I took today. Ignore the hat head, I am living in a beanie these days also I have a mysterious rash all over my neck and torso. After researching I believe it is an antibiotic reaction because it started a day after I stopped taking my meds. My doctors office confirmed and if it gets worse or spreads I am supposed to go back in two days. It seems to be clearing up very slowly so hopefully I can save the $150.00 doctor charge.

Saturday 9: Call Me

1. Who is someone that phones you routinely that you never seem to be up to talk to, but you are not ready to push them out of your life? I have no one like this. If someone calls me, it means they were thinking of me and I always make time for them. I recall in my younger days getting calls from friends who needed to talk at 2:00 a.m. They would always start with "were you sleeping?" I always said, "No". If they needed to talk I was going to be there!!! I sat up, turned on the light and listened to their story, drama, heartbreak, good news or whatever. It was important to them, so it was important to me.

2. What is something that effects you deeply, to your core, no matter your mood or what else is going on in your life? Anything having to do with my husband. It could be that I felt ignored, or detached from him or he hasn't called and it is getting late. I worry about him! My mother died when I was young and my dad abandoned us so neededless to say, I have an abandonment issue and I am always afraid of getting THAT call from the police or the hospital telling me that something happened to him. No matter how much I try to shake it and tell myself that I can't worry about what hasn't happened, I get stomach trouble and have trouble focusing. Thankfully it doesn't happen often, averaging about 5 times a year but when it happens it changes me and I can't do anything about it.

3. Tell us of something that relaxes you and always makes you happy. Sex! It makes everything else go away if only for a little while.

4. If you could take the train from anywhere to anywhere, where would 'anywhere' be? Clarksville?! Hopefully someone WILL be waiting at the station at 5:40!

5. If you could look into the future, how far down the road would you like to see? 10 years? 100 years? A million? I wouldn't want to see the future at all. Not even 5 minutes into it. Why bother if I have already seen it, there is no reason to repeat it. I prefer surprises.

6. Did you do your shopping online for this Christmas, how did it go? Did things come in on time? Any significant failures? ...and if you didn't, will you consider trying online shopping sometime this year?  I did a limited amount online. I always use AMAZONbut this year I also used Best Buy. Everything was on time.

7. What people or projects are worth your time, money or effort? The only thing I feel is not worth my time is waiting on the phone to speak to a representative after punching in a bunch of numbers only to have the rep who finally picks up to ask the same questions as the automated system. I hate, loathe, automated systems.

8. Think back when you were in high school. Are you proud of the way you dressed, or do you wish you could go back and change it all? H.S, was not a great experience for me. I was always the new person and was shy. As for my clothes; I was never big on fashion so I feel fine about the way I dressed. Jeans and a shirt..timeless and classic.

9. Do any of your friends, family or co-workers know about your blogs? For those that do, did you tell them or have they stumbled upon it by themselves? My friends and family know about my blog. I have told everyone however, there are very few personal friends or family who read my blog. I think I bore them.

Introducing Mr. Name Caller

Yesterday I wrote about Goddess and the kicking incident at school. This morning I had the opposite reaction to my other child's teacher telling me about "bad behavior".

I bring my son to school and the aid motions for me to come over. Goddess is in the car so I tell her it has to be quick. She proceeds to tell me that the teacher received a call this morning from a parent saying that a classmate stayed out of school yesterday because of Handsome's name calling.

Huh! So what I am hearing is that a child was so upset by my son's name calling that his mother actually kept him out of school.

She then tells me to go inside and speak to the teacher. I ask her to watch Goddess and run in.

Picture 641

As I step in I hear "Handsome, I heard something about you today and I am very upset." Handsome is standing on line after just walking in the door with his classmates and a bunch of 5th graders walking up and down the stairs. His class is on the 2nd floor so they usually stand their after coming off the bus or a parent's car until they are all there then the teacher brings them up.

She sees me and says, "Oh good you are here".

I tell her that the aid sent me in but is has to be quick because Goddess is in the car and needs to get to school.

She says, "I have been hearing from a bunch of parents that there has been some problems on the bus in the morning." (Wait didn't the aid just say that it was a call from A PARENT? Now it is a bunch of parents? Was this an honest mistake or was she trying to make a mountain out of a molehill? Saying one parent wasn't big enough in her eyes?)

I say, "The Morning?" (Handsome doesn't take the bus in the morning, I drive him.)

She says, "Oh I mean the afternoon and in the lunch room too.

So I say, "Oh from _________ mom (the name is being left out to protect the innocent).

She says, "He has been calling kids names and kids are getting upset. When kids get off the bus he calls them names".

I say, "Oh like "poopy head, fart face, someone here smells like diaper? Yes, this has been a problem at home. He learned these names from a boy at school and we have been dealing with it since October."

She says, "I know he isn't being mean-spirited or malicious, I think he just thinks he is funny."

I say, "Yes, he wants to be like the other boys and he does think it is funny. I will talk to him about this when he gets home."

She then says, "I wasn't aware of this but today I will go to lunch and watch. This has to be addressed."

I say, "Obviously. His father and I will talk to him, but I have to go I have the baby in the car."

I tell the aid thank you and leave the parking lot.

As I drive, the anger sets in.

Why was I lied to?
Why was the teacher making a mountain out of a molehill?
Why was he addressed before he even got to his class?
Why was he addressed in front of his classmates?
Is he ok?

After I dropped Goddess off, I spoke to her preschool teachers (Handsome's teachers last year). They felt like I did. This is appropriate behavior for this age. It isn't nice but they are all talking like this. If you want to make a little boy or a man for that sake talk about farts and poop.

I drove home and thought, wait a minute...this is bullshit in plain English. If I was the teacher and I knew a child wasn't being mean spirited or malicious I would have waited until we got to the classroom. Started the morning and when everyone was doing their thing, pulled Handsome aside for his side of the story. Then I would have addressed the class as a whole. Telling them that sometimes names hurt and that calling each other names is not OK. I would have talked about feelings and kindness and then maybe at story time picked a story talking about name calling or hurt feelings. After all this is Kindergarten and the kids are very young.

My anger increased as the morning went on. It just seemed that things weren't handled correctly. There was no reason to make a mountain out of a mole hill and how dare someone start my son's day in such a negative way about something so ridiculous.

Was he OK? Was he sad? Was he wondering why she "wasn't happy with him?" He didn't even know he did something wrong. It just seemed so unfair.

We are our child's advocates and I felt that this should have been handled much differently.

Goddess gets picked up at lunch time so I emailed the teacher with a simple sentence, "I will be picking Handsome up in a half hour."

When I got to his school, my desire was to talk to his teacher and tell her that the reason I was pulling him early was because I needed to talk to him. I needed to know that he was OK.

As parents we put our children into the hands of teachers, bureaucrats, moms, aids, other children, office workers, everyone with their own life, background, agenda and more. I need to know that my child is safe, in mind, body and spirit.

Like a mother bear I simply needed to talk to my child and know he was OK, that he felt safe, and that he understood what was happening.

When I got him home, I spoke with him in private which is more than his teacher did for him in the morning. He is OK! I address the problem and we will be working on this full time.

We did 10 pages in a workbook and then I let him be for now.

How would you have handled this if you were the teacher? Do you understand why I felt like I needed to sign him out early? Feel free to be honest, you don't have to agree with me. I love hearing how others parents.

She Did What?

Dec 2, 2009 (3)
Look at that face! Sweet, precious, innocent, daughter, beautiful, these are the words that come to mind when I look at this picture. However, today when I went to pick her up at Preschool her teacher called me in "hey Maria, I want to tell you what happened today."

We walk to a secluded area and her lovely teacher proceeds to tell me this story.

Teacher - "We were getting ready for story time. I am getting the book and I look up and see Goddess, lift her leg back and kick Izzy in the back. I don't think she likes her."

"What?" My mouth was hanging open so she went on.

Teacher - "Oh yeah, and it wasn't a little kick. I saw her. She really kicked her."  Then she shows me what it was like. No, she didn't actually kick me, just showed the leg thingy.

"Get out of here! That is so unlike her."

Teacher - "I know! I was so shocked that I shouted out "Goddess! Then she started crying. I think she was embarressed."

"Oh yeah, she gets embaressed easily."

Teacher - "So I told her we don't do that and made her sit down in the settle down chair and told her to take a moment to calm down."

"Did you ask her why?"

Teacher - "Yes, she said it is because she takes toys away from us all the time."

"Oh, well that is not ok. Thanks for telling me. I am shocked. I will talk to her."

Goddess comes running in and shows me her stickers. I start putting her coat on and tell her that if I were her teacher I would not have given her a sticker.

She asked why and I told her because you don't deserve one. "You kicked a friend. (Oh we use the word friend for everyone). We are going to talk about this miss".

"No, I don't want to" and she heads for the door.

I take her hand in the parking lot and tell her as I place her in the car that it is not OK to kick and would like to know why she kicked someone. "I am shocked Goddess. These are not stories that I want to hear from your teacher. Kicking is not OK and you could have hurt her. What gives you the right to kick another child?"

"She's a bad girl! She always takes toys out of our hands. She is mean" she tells me (this girl is 3 years old and doesn't talk much).

"Well, the next time, you are to go to your teacher and tell her. You are never to kick someone again!"

We take the 3 minute drive to the library and as we get out I tell her that we will not be going inside until she tells me that she will never kick another child again.

She says she wants to say it in my ear. This is something she has been doing forever. We walk into the vestibule and I say, the same thing again. "You tell me that you will never do this again and we can go in."
She starts crying and shakes her head no. I tell her that she has till the count of 5 to say it or we will go back to the car. I get to 5 and take her hand and walk out the door.

She runs into a corner next to the door and starts crying harder. I tell her that she needs to calm down and that I want to hear from her that she knows she is never to kick again. She shakes her head us. I wipe her tears and say tell me. She says, she won't kick again.

Then I try again, why not push my luck? I need to know why she decided to kick this little girl.

"She sat on my blue spot on the rug! That is where I always sit. It is my favorite color and she always sits on purple. I wanted to sit there."

So, I give her the speech, "well my favorite color is blue too. Maybe she decided that she like blue today, or maybe she didn't even think about it. She is little and probably just wanted to sit like the teacher asked. You do not own that rug. It is a place to sit so your teacher can read to you. The next time someone is on your color you are to sit somewhere else. Do you understand?!

She said, "Yes."

Then I follow up with "Daddy and I never want to hear something like this from your teacher again do you hear me?" Honestly, why not beat a dead horse?!

She says "Yes" and all is well.

Between my son's answering back and potty talk (farts, butt, "someone smells like diaper", and more kid comedy) and Goddess' bullying...things are just ducky.

How would you have handled this? Did I go too far?

Forecast for 2010

As we start 2010 I want to get back to writing more. When I started the blog in 2005 it was a way for me to journal with photos and eventually create a book for each of my kids documenting their early years and who I am.

I was 12 when my mom passed away and I never knew her. What was she like? What did she dream about? What kind of girlfriend was she to her friends? What were are hopes for the future? What did she like, hate, worry about? So many questions and hardly enough time. She was only 34 years old when she died! A baby!

So, I am baring it all! You will get the real me. It isn't like you got someone else before, you just got the scaled down, PC version of Me!

Lets begin shall we?

Today I spent the morning hanging with my girlfriend at her house. I adore her! She is like family and I feel more comfortable with her than I do at my own families house. She made me breakfast, we had coffee then headed downstairs to the most comfortable family room with the biggest TV to watch Season 1, episode 8 and 9 of  True Blood. Damn that show rocks.

Mid way through she ran upstairs to bring us a double shot each of some awesome Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog If you like egg nog, I recommend you get yourself a bottle. Delish!!!! No after taste and perfectly spiked.

Then I headed out to pick up my daughter, Goddess and then to A&P where I spent over $80.00 on absolutely nothing. Seriously, how are people supposed to live? My husband is self employed and the beginning of the year is always tough but we have to eat to live. We got the bare minimum, basics only, no meat, 23 items mostly canned and it still was $80.00! Damn that pisses me off.  But what are you gonna do?

Another thing, who are these people who keep unsubscribing to my blog due to too many updates? I get about 1 a month and they always put too many updates. After pretty much being gone most of December I am shocked. Oh well, tada. Sorry to see you go. It is funny because when I used to use Bloglines before I started subscribing to every blogger on the planet I used to cancel if there weren't enough updates. If someone didn't write something new in 2 weeks I moved on. After all I was reading over 200 blogs and I could afford to lose a few.

Oh and while I am at it, what the hell is up with people who comment on my You Tube videos? I will never understand it. People were very interested in my Zhu Zhu Pet reviews and not in a good way. They will not be blocked and I will never answer them because that is exactly what they want but I don't know how people like this function.  Most of them were concerned that one little girl was wearing make-up. She isn't, she is just beautiful. Others had an uninteresting discussion about the moms who were playing with the Zhu Zhu pets.  Another wanted me to know that they are not Zhu Zhu Pets but Go Go pets, I guess she purchased them before they CHANGED their name. Why the hell would I review a product for a company and not know the correct name?

The best comments come from a really fucked up chick named Lauren who commented numerous times one line; " Fuck Up Your Toddlers." Isn't she just a peach? Interesting that she only says this one line and says it on every single kid video upload posted by just about anyone. Why she has the time and energy to do this is beyond me but more power to her. Her words don't bother me and she means nothing so I let her be and have also left her comments up. Words are just that unless we choose to let them offend us. A lot of people have gone to her page on You Tube and yelled at her for her comments but I refuse to give her want she wants. She obviously has some major issues but they aren't mine so type away bitch!

Next, what does one do about poison friends? We have all had them at one time or another. However at 43 years old, it is hard to want to hang onto them. People who are negative, illogical or mean spirited can take you down with them if you let them. Would you even try to talk to someone who always chooses anger, conflict and turmoil or would you simply let them go?

Well, time to email Handsome's teacher and talk about his progress report. Maybe together we can find something that helps him stay focused in class. God help me.

To all my loyal readers, thank you for your continued support and comments. You have no idea how much you each mean to me. I think of you each as a friend and get very happy when I see you grace my page with your wit, love and insight.

Peace Out!

Christmas is all About the Red!

It is not the best picture but I was lucky to get any this Christmas. Welcome to Christmas Morning at my house. We are so lucky to know that any Christmas presents that are wrapped in red are from Santa himself. Everything else comes from someone else who loves us. After all, why should he get all the glory and he couldn't possibly fit everything for everyone in his sleigh. Some gifts are from Mom and Dad, some from Aunt Hollywood, and some Handsome and Goddess to each other.

My First Simple Woman's Daybook for 2010

FOR TODAY... January 4, 2010

Outside my window... cold and gray with the sun going down over the majestic mountains of my home town.

I am thinking... about my son's report card which I got today and how I am going to help him focus at school when I am not there.

I am thankful for... the two weeks I spent with my kids. I was sick but they were awesome and pretty much took it easy on me.

I am wearing... Jeans and a warm cream shirt with a print on the front.

I am remembering...how awesome my girlfriends are. I have some pretty rad friends.

I am going... to close up this computer and start dinner.

I am currently reading... Count Your Blessings a Chicken Soup for the Soul book

I am hoping... my husband returns home soon. I live for the moments when we are all under the same roof.

On my mind...What is next on my reading agenda?  Decisions, decisions.

Noticing that... it is getting dark already.

Pondering these words... "I feel that Handsome is consumed "to" (and she is teaching my son?) much with his classmates actions and work." written by Handsome's teacher on his progress report.

From the kitchen...grilled chicken made on our new George Foreman Colors Grill

Around the house...Time to put these Christmas decorations away.

One of my favorite things - my daughter telling me 20 times a day that she loves me.

From my picture journal...

This is not real snow but I felt the face went well with a computerized snow fall.

Total Concentration Is Necessary

Watching my little girl make me a necklace is one of the sweetest things. She really concentrates and put my favorite colors together.

Some Yellow Christmas Ornaments

This Christmas I took very few photos. I really feel like I missed out this year. You guys know I love my photos. Being sick took a lot out of me including the desire to pick up my camera.

However, I did manage to think about Mellow Yellow Monday and snap this photo of a doll my daughter received from her Godmother on her first Christmas. I put a lot of toys on my tree. My kids first teething toys and their Christmas rattles among a few smaller stuffed toys like their mobile animals. I think of it like this, I can't keep everything from their babyhood but these toys are justified because I only take them out once a year, the rest of the year they are in storage.
