I have been a fan of General Hospital since 1979, I was 13 years old. It all started with my friend Chantel. Grab a seat, this is a looong story.
Rewind a few years, My mother was a fan of The Doctors and Days of Our Lives when I was a kid. I never watched it but I knew not to interrupt her when Doug and Julie were on. When she passed away, we moved to a new town and a new school. I was 12 and now living in a complex of Townhouse type buildings full of kids my age. My newest friend was Chantel and she watched General Hospital. She would run off the bus telling me she would see me at 4:00. We knew not to go to Chantel's house before 4:00. Eventually I decided to give this show a try and loved talking about it on the bus ride home.
We talked about Amy, Laura, Luke, Alan and Monica and the rest. It was awesome. Eventually I moved from the complex into Brooklyn (a world apart from where I was in Dutchess County NY) and changed schools 3 times before graduating, but General Hospital was a constant.
No matter where I was, who was in my life, what job I had, what boyfriend I had, General Hospital was there. I gave it up for life for about 2 years in the mid 90's but after landing in the hospital for 6 days when my appendix nearly killed me, I found it again. What else was there to watch on TV during the day before cable?
When I received word that Mom Central was looking for Ambassadors for General Hospital, I couldn't fill out the form fast enough.
I received the email yesterday that I was selected as an ambassador.
In the coming weeks, check my blog for the latest and greatest on everything GH.

Glad to hear you are a part of something that you truly love! Congrats.
ReplyDeleteI never got into soaps, but my mom sure did love them when I was growing up--and she still watches them today. General Hospital and Days of Our Lives, every weekday, and don't interrupt while her "stories" are on! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the ambassadorship!
ReplyDeleteI used to watch soaps but haven't in forever. I stopped watching GH back when John Stamos played Blacky... lol.
I am REALLY excited for you, I know how much you LOVE GH. I watched all the time when I was a teenager. I also had a best friend named Chantel for 6 years, until we moved also [weird].
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched it in years, but the names still sound all so familiar and I cannot wait until you write about all the updates and show off all your cool stuff.
