As a preschool teacher who takes a safety course every two years and deals with at least two toddlers a week shoving too much food in their mouth in my classroom, the thought of a child choking and me not being able to save them scares the crap out of me. Most of the kids just need a reminder to spit it out but I have had to do the occasional mouth swipe and get a finger bitten. Grrr...comes with the job. I am just glad it is never life threatening and always very relieved when the child is perfectly fine right after and we can all sit back and breathe.
LifeVac is something I have heard about and was so excited to check it out. Whether parenting, teaching or just at eating with friends the potential of someone choking is always there. It is a real threat and one child dies every five days from choking in the US alone. Sadly, abdominal thrusts work in only approximately 50% of cases prior to EMS arrival. The easy-to-use and proven LifeVac device is a patented choking first-aid device that travels easily wherever you go.
Babies and toddlers are exploring the world, often with their mouths, and mastering the skill of eating. Every mom knows the dreaded sound of their child choking, and sadly children under four are the most likely to choke. The LifeVac device is a non-invasive airway clearance device (ACD) that is used efficiently and quickly. It is portable, lightweight and fits easily in a baby bag, so it can always be on hand.
LifeVac
is very simple to use: PLACE. PUSH. PULL.
- Place
the LifeVac device over the mouth and nose to create a seal.
- Push
downward: The one-way valve prevents air from pushing food or objects
downward when pressed.
- Then
simply pull to create a one-way suction to remove the lodged food or
object in seconds.
- Watch
the video and share with friends to help save lives: www.LifeVac.net
When I brought it into work I went to each classroom so that all the teachers and assistants could try it. It is easy to use and comes with a child, adult and training piece. We all tried it out and read that if the device is easy to remove from the table, you aren't doing it right. It only took us about 2 tries each to get it and everyone was amazed. Hopefully we can get one for every room soon but for now I will be keeping this in the Directors office. We have all been trained but God forbid we can't do it and have to call 911 we have something that will assist us if we just can't get it. Everyone at my job believes this is a great product and we all want one for home and work!
“I believe in this life saving product and want to help change the statistics around choking,” shares celebrity mom Gretchen Rossi. “I have a LifeVac at home and one in my car as well. I know I can be there for my one-year-old daughter if anything should ever happen, and it personally relieves so much worry for me.”
